HOPE – A group portrait

I was asked to make a surprising group portrait of the staff of Domus.

Domus is a Salvation Army refuge in The Hague. It’s where I made the ‘People of Domus’ project. During my time there I got to know the staff, who are genuinely passionate about their – often challenging – jobs.  They maintain an unwavering faith in the potential of their clients, even though their lifestyle can proof very difficult to change.

I decided to create a group portrait out of individual portraits to emphasize the strength of each unique character. I then added a layer of color to each staff portrait, and in doing so every portrait connects with the others. When put in order, the whole group of portraits spells HOPE
